Among 300++ applicants who have been screened I was chosen as
one of the 90 students who have passed the examination and interviews to
officially become the Edsa Shangri-La’s Practicum Trainee. After a long quest I
was given a great opportunity to enter the hotel industry. I feel very lucky
because I am the first female practicumer in our school that entered Shangri-La
Hotels. It is a privilege for me to be known and an honor to my Alma Mater La
Consolacion College Tanauan. At first I have nothing on my mind what will be my
position or where department I will be assign, only matters to me is that I entered
Shangri-La and so excited to start my On the Job Training as soon as possible.
After the two days New Trainee Orientation the management assigned us to
different departments in the hotel. I was assigned as a Guest relation/Lobby
Ambassador; at first I don’t have any idea what are the responsibilities of an
lobby ambassador until the trainee manager told us that we will be assigned at
the hotel doors and elevators. I was shocked and feel bad because I already
know my Job “I am a door girl or an elevator girl”. I don’t really want to be a
door girl! This is not the training I want it is just a waste of time for me.
But time goes by; eventually I realized I was very lucky! Being a door girl is
not a waste of time. I am a Lobby Ambassador!” we are the First and Last
Impression of the Hotel. We have the opportunity to talk and meet different
guests, we have the authority to roam around inside the hotel, we are the one
who welcomes guest on their arrivals and thank them on their departures, we
also have the chance to be known by the guest and give us commendations. We are
also trained in different aspect of the hotel like in how to check in and check
out guests, and answer telephone calls. And before my 400 hours training ends,
I received a CDP (Customer Delight Program)award, it was given to the employee by being
recognized by the hotel guests if you give them the most relevant Customer
Delight Experience.
God never give me a life without purpose he never gives me dream without a
power to make it come true, most of all he never give me trial if I didn’t have
an ability to survive.
Truly God is so great and I’m blessed that I have given a chance to live
and enjoy what life is. A chance to be in Edsa Shangri-La Manila and meet
different persons and learn the things I didn’t know. I am very thankful that I
had my training there. A lot of unforgettable experience, problems encountered,
insights gained and realization that helps me to be a better individual. I know
that all those things that I have learned during my practicum training will
remain good memories as long as I live.
Have a Shangtastic Day everyone…..
